“…because the book, before being the book, was someone's voice. What reading does is put all the emotions in the human voice. At the beginning of everything, literature is voice and I love to say that babies read with their ears, like poets. Babies don't care what the words say but how they say it, how they wrap it, how they sing. It has to do with the heart, with the rhythms of life. That's what spells the baby. The voice is the first symbolic imprint on a baby and is a carrier of affection. The voice, the orality comes from very far back.”
As a librarian, I am always in favor of reading. I have heard from many sources that reading to babies and small children is the basis for literacy when they are older. Wise post . Have a wonderful Monday.
